Family history month

August is Family History month at our Libraries

Family History Month is observed annually during the month of August across New Zealand and Australia. It's a time to reflect on our roots and celebrate our unique histories and identities.

Apart from a range of special events held all over New Zealand, it's an opportunity to showcase the significant resources that are available to researchers of family history.

At Matamata-Piako District Libraries, we would love to help you start, or continue, your journey of discovering where you came from.

During August, you can drop into any of our libraries to grab a Starter Pack or download one from the website.  This is a resource we've put together to help you get started creating a family tree and discovering resources online and in our libraries that can help you find your ancestors.

Our librarians are going to host classes to learn to use Ancestry Library Edition - check our Events Calendar for exact dates.

The Matamata branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists will be running a workshop in Matamata Library and Te Aroha Library.  These fun and interactive workshops will help you learn from experienced members of our community.
